Thomas Robert Woods, 86, of Wilkes-Barre Township, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025 at his home.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Thomas Raymond and Helen Mae Ehrlich Woods. Tom was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1956 and the Wilkes-Barre Business College. He served with the U.S. Army Reserves from 1956 to 1964.
Tom’s career in broadcast spanned over 65 years. He was a well know radio and TV, disk jockey and announcer, having worked locally at WARM Radio, WILK Radio, and as Director of Creative Services at WBRE TV. In the early ‘70s, he worked in Washington, DC at WTOP and later at syndicated Mutual Broadcasting System. He also operated his own media company, serving as a television and radio spokesman in the advertising industry. Tom also formerly worked at the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority in public relations.
More recently, Tom served on the Mohegan Sun Arena Board of Directors, as well as the Wilkes-Barre Township Zoning and Hearing Board and enjoyed working with the campers for many summers with his wife, Fran, at the Wilkes Barre Township Settlement Camp. He was a volunteer and active supporter of St. Nicholas Church’s program for ‘God’s Special Children.’
Tom led a life filled with purpose and passion, thriving in a career that brought him joy and fulfillment. His unwavering faith served as the foundation for his many contributions to the community, where he brought people together as an engaging emcee for concerts, shows and parades, and offered support to those battling addiction. A true friend to all, Tom cherished long-lasting relationships and had a remarkable ability to remember the unique stories and details of everyone he encountered. Most of all, he adored time with his family, especially his five grandchildren, with whom he shared many laughs and Grandpop jokes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jake Michael DiGeronimo.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Fran Masavage Woods; children, Bobbi A.
