Joseph DeMarco Obituary

Joseph L. DeMarco, 87, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the Embassy of Wyoming Valley in Wilkes-Barre.


He was born in Dunmore, a son of the late Leonard and Melba Joyce DeMarco. Joseph was a 1955 graduate of Dunmore High School. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Interstate Building Supplies in Pittston as a manager.


Joseph was a devout Catholic and member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church in Wilkes-Barre. He was formerly active with the St. Therese’s Little League in South Wilkes-Barre and the Wilkes-Barre Girls Softball League. Joseph enjoyed cheering on Penn State and the Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as attending the sporting events of his grandchildren.


In addition to his parent, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Marjorie Manka DeMarco in 2021 and by his son, Christopher DeMarco in 1961. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Patrick and James DeMarco and by his sisters, Angelina Kraycer and Jeanie Bogdan.


Joseph is survived by his children Cindy Zakarauskas and her husband, Joseph, Bear Creek Township, Gerri Williams, Kingston and Joseph DeMarco Jr. and Diane Marut, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Billy and Krista Williams, Stanley Zakarauskas, Elizabeth Neare and her husband, Justin, Christopher and Matthew DeMarco; great grandchildren, Melanie Zakarauskas and Zakary Neare; brother, Leonard DeMarco, New York; sister, Joan Nole, Archbald; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Joseph’s family would like to thank the second floor staff at Embassy of Wyoming Valley and the staff of Serenity Hospice Care, especially his aide, Jessica, for their compassionate care.


Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 10 am in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church, Barney and Division Street, Wilkes-Barre. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.


There will be no public calling hours.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joseph’s name to St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, 143 Division Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
