Nancy Scalfer Obituary

It’s with a heavy heart that our beloved mom Nancy Gilroy Scalfer,92, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Born on January 1, 1933, daughter of the late Pearl and Noval Wilson.


Nancy loved to cook for her family and her favorite hobby was “Bingo”. Nancy owned two restaurants back in the day and always greeted you with a smile. She worked in the pants factory and then became the cook at her son’s bar. She loved being surrounded by her family, which was a very large family that never stopped growing. Nancy loved the holidays and being able to see everyone, all in all she was loved by many.


Nancy preceded in death by her husband Thomas Scalfer and her first husband Edmund Gilroy. Her son, Edmund Gilroy and infant son Charlie, grandson Keith Gilroy Jr. and son-in law, James Bono.


Nancy is survived by her loving children Darlene and Thomas Mapes, Barbara Bono and Glenn, Keith and Kryssy Gilroy, Patrick Gilroy and Rhonda, Michael Gilroy, Jacqueline and Kenny Price. Nancy has 23 grandchildren along with 54 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.


A special thank you to all the nurses and aides that helped our mom thru hospice.


Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2025, from Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home 89 Park Ave. Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Hanover Twp.


A visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. from the funeral home.
