Jemiel Mary Grant Obituary

Jemiel M. Shiner Grant, Wilkes-Barre, formerly of Nanticoke, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, passed away at the Meadows Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Dallas.


Jemiel was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late George and Mary Shiner. She was a graduate of G.A.R. High School, class of 1957. Jemiel was also a graduate of Empire Beauty School and operated Jemiel’s Beauty Salon for 18 years. She was also employed by the city of Nanticoke in the Tax Office as its Deputy Treasurer.


Jemiel was a member of St. Anthony-St. George Maronite Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, where she was a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Washington Square Apartments Resident’s Club. Jemiel enjoyed playing cards and board games with her friends from Gateway Apartments.


She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Lux Grant in 2013; son, Thomas Lee Grant in 2014; brother, Anthony Shiner and his wife, Bertha; sisters, Leona Binkley and her husband, Harold; and Angeline Khalife and her husband, Anthony.


Surviving are her daughters, Jemiel Smeltz and her husband, Dan, Phoenixville; Kimberly MacMullen, Sweet Valley; Ruth Grant, Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Zachery and Kara Smeltz, and Lauren and Collin MacMullen; sister, Suzanne Petrolonis and her husband, Anthony, Ormond Beach, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 9:30 am from the Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 am in St. Anthony-St. George Maronite Catholic Church, 311 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Her Pastor, Rev. Adib Salameh will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.


A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2-5 pm on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the funeral home.
