Barbara A. Paraventi, 86, of Swoyersville and formerly Wilkes-Barre Twp. passed away Thursday September 25, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. She was born in county Mayo, Ireland the daughter of the late Patrick and Barbara Carey Howard. Barbara left school at an early age to help her family. She worked in the garment industry in Wilkes-Barre. Barbara was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
She immigrated from Ireland as a young woman and was embraced here by her aunts and cousins. Barbara lived a humble life taking pleasure in gardening, caring for her family, and celebrating the holidays. Her greatest joys were spending time with her grandchildren and great grandson in her later years.
Barbara was an amazing woman kind, humble, and always thoughtful. She always took care of those around her and was loved deeply. Barbara would put a smile on everyone’s face. She enjoyed giving back to the community and helping others.
Preceded in death by husband, Leonard Paraventi, brothers, Paddy, John, Michael, Tom, and James Howard, sisters, Mary Gilboy, Bridie Murphy, Nora Dunleavy, and Kathleen Syron.
Survived by her daughter, Noreen Jackson, Swoyersville, grandchildren, Robin, Ryan, and Renee Jackson, great grandson, Liam Jackson, brothers, Peter Howard and his wife Josephine, England, Tony Howard, Ireland, sisters-in-law, Peggy Howard, Ireland, Joy Howard, England, step-children, Patricia Martin, Mark Paraventi and his wife Karen, and Karen Danilowicz, step-grandchildren, Randy Schuster, Anthony Paraventi, and Sarah Mullin, step great grandchild, Reilly Chapin.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. October 4, 2025, from the mausoleum chapel at St. Mary’s Cemetery 1594 S. Main Street, Hanover Twp. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at the mausoleum chapel.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre.
