Jeffrey T. “Jeff” Gruver, 73, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Allied Services Center City Skilled Nursing in Wilkes-Barre surrounded by family. His passing leaves a space that will be felt deeply by all who knew and loved him.
Born in Kingston to Jerome and Jeanne Gruver, Jeff grew up with a natural ability to make others laugh. His humor, quick wit, and light-hearted nature made him someone people were simply drawn to. He graduated from Dallas High School and later earned his associate degree from Penn State University.
Jeff began his career in the automotive industry, first in sales where his warm, outgoing personality made him shine, then in finance, where his love of numbers allowed him to truly excel. He eventually found his way into aftermarket vehicle warranties before building and operating his own company, Gruver Management. He ran the business with dedication, humility, and an unshakable work ethic that spoke louder than he ever felt the need to. His commitment provided a stable and prosperous life for his family, something he took great pride in.
Jeff was an outgoing soul whose gentleness and warm heart touched everyone he encountered. He showed love in quiet ways: through small acts of kindness, steady reliability, and a loyalty that never wavered. He appreciated simplicity and routine, and he cherished his loved ones without needing attention or recognition for it.
Though he lived more quietly later in life, his greatest pride was always his family. He is survived by his daughter, Jeanna Saunders, and her husband, Antonio, of Severn, MD. To Jeanna, he was not only a father but a constant presence—someone who, in his own understanding way, always showed up when it mattered most. Jeff’s grandchildren, Ahmahz Brathwaite, Zayden Saunders, and Zoe Saunders, brought him genuine joy. Even in the more challenging years of his life, the mere mention of them could bring light to his face.
Jeff is also survived by his sisters, Jacqueline Sparks of Wilkes-Barre, and JoAnn Mateyu and her husband, Kenneth, of Mountain Top. His niece, Heather Phillips, and nephew, Travis Sparks, knew him as a thoughtful uncle they could always count on. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Oliver Crosby Sparks.
True to who he was—humble, private, and never one for fanfare, Jeff requested that no funeral service be held. His family honors that wish while holding close the memories of a man who loved quietly but deeply.
