Phillip A. Cummings Jr. Obituary

Phillip A. Cummings, Jr., 86, of Dallas, passed away December 2, 2025, at the Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dallas.


He was born in Kingston, eldest son of Phillip A. Sr. and Aneila Galka Cummings. Phil attended Lehman-Jackson Senior High School, and was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Wilkes-Barre, going on to attend the University of Scranton and Lackawanna College. He was a longstanding member of Saint Therese’s Church in Shavertown.


His professional life began young, and steadily evolved, from ride attendant at Hanson’s Amusement Park to car dealership announcer to broadcast sports announcer and disk jockey, Phil ascended into the world of broadcast journalism, reading the news daily to thousands. From WNAK in New Jersey to WCOJ in Coatesville to an anchor desk at WGBI, and then on to television broadcast news at WDAU before returning to radio at WILK. He was a broadcast journalist for over 50 years until he retired.

A martial arts student for decades, he earned black belts in several disciplines, and enjoyed teaching the arts to new students at the various studios at which he studied. Phil was also active in camping, mountain biking, kayaking, cross-country skiing, hiking, and any other physical activity that allowed him to enjoy the natural elements he loved. He was a father of five, a grandfather of ten, and a great-grandfather of five.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret “Margo” Mazaika Cummings in 2009, and his brothers, 2nd Lt. Richard M. Cummings (1967), Francis T. Cummings (2019), and Charles D. Cummings (2021).


He is survived by his children, daughter Barbara Goode and her husband Brian Goode, Plains, son Terrence Cummings, Dallas, daughter Carole Cummings-Rembecki and her husband Eric Rembecki Sr, Hanover, son Richard Cummings and his wife Cathy, Dallas, and daughter Casey Cummings and her partner Roger Butler, Boca Raton, FL. His grandchildren, Jenna Rembecki, Rachel Rembecki, Eric Rembecki Jr, Olivia Rembecki, Brian Goode Jr, Jesse Goode, Terry Cummings Jr, Scarlet Cummings, Dylan Cummings, and Katelynne Butler. His great-grandchildren, Aidan Green, Eleanor Green, Ethan Williams, Evan Williams, and Ian Fockler. Surviving siblings include sister Mary Nice, Mountaintop, sister Eileen Cummings, Syracuse NY, sister Helen Cummings, Dallas, brother John Cummings, Dallas, Lawrence Cummings, Trucksville, and sister Joanna Cummings, Charlotte VT.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 13th at 11am in Saint Therese’s Church, South Pioneer Ave. and Davis St., Shavertown. A 10am viewing will precede the service. Phil’s pastor, Rev. Joseph Pisaneschi, will officiate. Internment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Bear Creek.
