Patrick J. McCormick Obituary

Patrick J. McCormick, of Jenkins Twp, died on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at the Meadows Nursing and Rehab Center in Dallas. He was 95 years old.

Born in Dobbs Ferry, NY, the son of Judge John T. and Lucy (Boyle) McCormick, he has lived in the Greater Pittston Area since 1993. Educated in Dobbs Ferry Public Schools, he received an A.B. degree from Catholic University of America and an M.B.A. from Rutgers University.


He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1958 and served New York City parishes for 12 years. He left active ministry in 1970. He married Frances Rice in 1971.

Before retiring in 1995, he worked as a financial advisor for religious orders around the country. He was founding chair of the Anawim Fund of the Midwest and served on three charitable religious trusts, as well as consultant for the Retirement Fund for Religious and the National Association of Treasurers of Religious Institutes. He held managerial positions with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (NJ Chapter), United Neighborhood Houses (NYC), and the New Jersey Regional Drug Abuse Agency.


Locally, he was a communicant of St. Nicholas Church, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Social Concerns and Stewardship Committee, a RICA catechist, and the MESSENGER staff. He served on the Steering Committee (treasurer) of the Peace and Justice Center and was a member of Pax Christi, Amnesty International, Fellowship of Reconciliation Network, and Bread for the World. He tutored English for Catholic Social Services Immigration Program.


Two brothers, John and James pre-deceased him.


He is survived by his wife, Frances (Rice), of Jenkins Twp, sister Beth, O.P., of Croton, NY and Eileen Sickinger of Simsbury, CT, sixteen nephews and nieces, and many grand-nieces and nephews.


Funeral Services will be from St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 25, 2026, with burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY. A visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, April 24 from the Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home.
