Ann Marie Gorgone Obituary
Ann Marie Gorgone, 91, of Wilkes Barre, PA and formerly of Hughestown, went to meet our heavenly father on May 5, 2026. Ann Marie, formally, Ann Marie Mordis, passed away at home in the care of her daughter, Grace Ann, along with the wonderful support of Allied Hospice staff. She is survived by her son, Peter Gorgone, Las Vegas, NV, her daughter Grace Ann Jones of Wilkes-Barre, PA and her beloved (pride and joy) granddaughter, Nadia Jones of Pittsburgh. Her brother Thomas Mordis of Peckville will miss her dearly as they remained very close through the years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter Paul and Grace Mordis of Pittston, PA and husband Samuel F Gorgone, of Hughestown, PA.(10-18-78)
Ann Marie (RiRi) came into this world dancing and singing and spent her youthful years teaching tap-dance and baton twirling at Hilda Man Hertz studios in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She entertained on the radio, tv and numerous theatrical events. Ann Marie performed at Irem Temple, Bone’s Rose Room and many other local venues. She graduated from St John The Evangelist High School in Pittston, PA.
While her love for music and dance would remain an intrinsic part of her life, she found yet another passion- helping others. She graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing school in 1956 as an LPN. She would spend many years serving in the nursing field in both hospitals and private duty sector. She had a passion for serving special needs children and the elderly/disabled populations. She was a caring and compassionate force of nature. There was nothing she would not take on in the name of helping others.
When her granddaughter, Nadia, was born, she took on a new role as “Gram” and carried on the tradition of teaching love through the arts. She was once again an entertainer, as she cared for Nadia and other neighborhood children and would lift their spirits with her love of music and development of the creative mind.
She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament church in Hughestown and enjoyed attending mass. She enjoyed vacationing at the beach and hosting holidays dinners for her family. She adored animals and that caring, helpful nature carried over into her taking in many pets through the years. May she meet them at the Rainbow Bridge with many meows and tails wagging.
A true representative of her generation, she never showed the struggles she endured. She always stood tall and found a way to get through difficult times. Always a fighter and the strongest woman known to her kin. She was truly loved and will be missed dearly.
Arrangements are being cared for by Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home. and to honor her wishes, there will be no formal service. Instead, please listen to a favorite song and tap along-as music makes us all come together in peace and light. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date by the family.
