Ronald A. Zaledonis Obituary

Ronald A. Zaledonis, 80, of Hanover Township, fell asleep in the Lord and entered into eternal life, on Friday, July 10, 2026 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township, with his loving wife, Mary Ann, by his side.


He was born in Wilkes-Barre Township, a son of the late Anthony and Mary Columbus Zaledonis. Ron was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School, Class of 1963. He was an Army Veteran, proudly serving during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Mansfield University. He later received his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Shippensburg University and he received his principal’s certification from Bucknell University.


Ron was employed in education for many years. He served as a guidance counselor and wresting coach in Sullivan County and later as a guidance counselor and principal in the Benton School District, prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the National Education Association and the National Association of Elementary and Secondary Principals.


Ron was a devoted and active member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church in Wilkes-Barre, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, and served as a Eucharistic Minister and Acolyte. He was also a member of the Wilkes-Barre Township American Legion Post 815. Ron loved to work out at Odyssey Fitness in Wilkes-Barre, where he was a member since its opening.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dolores Banas; his nephew, Brian Banas; and by his brother-in-law, George Daru and his wife, Carol.


Ron is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Ann Daru Zaledonis; and by his uncle and aunt, John and Theresa Columbus; brother-in-law, Joseph Banas; niece, Jennifer Flake and great nephew, Tyler Joseph Flake. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Nancy Wodarczyk and her husband, Richard; by his nephew, David Wodarczyk; and numerous cousins.


A celebration of Ron’s life, will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026 in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church, Barney and Division Streets, Wilkes-Barre, with a visitation from 9-11 am at the Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am. His Pastor, Rev. Richard J. Cirba will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
