Obituary of Kathryn Jean Bruce

Please share a memory of Kathryn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Friday, July 1, 2022, Kathryn (Katie) Jean Bruce, a loving daughter, grand-daughter, sister, aunt, and niece passed away at the age of 34. Katie was born on January 20th, 1988 in Scranton, PA to David and Beth (Dulworth) Bruce. Katie received her Bachelor’s Degree in business from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). In college, Katie played three years of Division II field hockey. She played alongside her younger sister Nicole. Katie and Nicole considered each other soulmates and were known as the “Bruce Sisters” in the field hockey community. During her senior season, Katie was named a Division II All-American, an award she worked hard to earn. Anyone who knew Katie would say she was an incredibly hard worker, both as an athlete and in her professional life. Katie’s passions included traveling, exercise, and helping others. She had a love for Colorado and the Denver Broncos. In 2011, Katie traveled to Brazil to volunteer at a childrens’ orphanage. In 2013, she traveled across Europe with her best friend, Kaitlin Aber. She enjoyed kayaking down the Delaware River with her father, David. Katie will be remembered for her kind heart, her protectiveness, and her love for her friends and family. Katie’s friends and family will miss her generous and compassionate nature, her positive spirit and sense of humor, and her contagious laugh. Katie had the ability to make anyone feel comfortable and was a very special soul. We pray that judicial systems throughout our country will consider better treatment/laws for those suffering with mental health/addiction issues. We feel there should be a separate system to treat individuals with mental health problems/addiction than those for violent crimes. Katie will be truly missed and this is a great loss for her friends and family. Katie was preceded in death by her mother, Beth Ann, sister, Chelsea, cousin, Alec, grandmother, Jean, aunt, Barbara, and grandfather, Ed. She is survived by her father, David, sister, Nicole and her husband Matt, grandmother, Jo, uncles; Mike and Bob, aunts; Shelly, Jill, and Teresa, cousins; Jen, Braden, John, Brian, Elizabeth, and Theo; and nephews, Matthew and Mason. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. July 28th at Church of the Epiphany 25 Church Hill Road, Dalton, PA with the Rev. Divis officiating.
