Obituary of Gertrude M. Bekampis

Gertrude M. Bekampis, 97, formerly of Hanover Township, passed away peacefully at Highland Park Senior Living in Wilkes-Barre Township. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late James and Mary Hutnik Harcarik. Gertrude attended G.A.R. Memorial High School. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed at Franklin First Federal Savings & Loans. Gertrude was a devout Catholic and member of St. Leo the Great Church in Ashley. She loved tending her flower gardens, taking care of her home and indulging on her homemade baked goods and sweets. More than anything she enjoyed taking care of and spending time with her family as she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Francis C. Bekampis, in 2022. She was also preceded in death by her infant son, Thomas, and by her brothers, Raymond and James Harcarik. Surviving are her children, Francis Bekampis and his wife, Carolyn, Wayside, NJ, Theresa Supczenski and her husband, Michael, Trucksville and Ann Marie Chopack and her husband, James, Columbia, MD. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melissa Macarelli and her husband, Dan; Michael Supczenski and his wife, Ashley; Justin Chopack and his wife, Pam; Dr. Christopher Bekampis; Jessica Messana and her husband, Peter, Angela and her fiancée Michael Guardino, Stephanie and Emily Bekampis; great granddaughters, Madison and Mackenzie Macarelli, her best buddy Brady her dog and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 19th at 10:30 am from the Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Leo the Great Church, 33 Manhattan Street, Ashley. Her Pastor, Rev. Vincent Dang, will officiate. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Dallas. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday from 9 am-10:30 am at the Funeral Home. A special thank you to the staff and caregivers from Home Instead Luzerne, Highland Park Senior Living and Traditional Hospice, Dunmore especially Tyress, Evelyn, Jennifer, Randi and Danielle.
