Obituary of Stella M. Brodhead

Stella “Estelle” M. Brodhead, 94, of Wilkes-Barre passed away Tuesday April 9, 2024, at Allied Services Hospice, Wilkes-Barre. She was born in Wilkes-Barre to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Bartelas Evanoski. Stella graduated from G.A.R. High School and Wilkes-Barre Business College, where she earned her business degree, while working full time and raising her three children. She was employed by Sears Roebuck, Wilkes College Bookstore as the manager, My Brother’s Place in the accounting dept. and Jewish Family Services in the accounting dept. prior to her retirement. Stella was a member of St. Andrew’s Parish, Wilkes-Barre, and the former St. Boniface Church, Wilkes-Barre prior to its closing. She always relied heavily on her faith. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed ballroom dancing and never missed a local bazaar that she loved to attend with her grandchildren. Stella was a force to be reckoned with and will be a hard act to follow. Preceded in death by husband, Louis, Sister, Eleanor Grochowski, brother, James Evanoski, and daughter-in-law, Donna Miller Brodhead. She is survived by sons, David Brodhead and his wife Dr. Jane Durkin, Timothy Brodhead, daughter, Linda Brodhead and her fiancé William “Bob” Haskell, brother, Frank Evanoski, grandchildren, Arnold Brodhead and his wife Rian, Thomas Brodhead and his fiancé Alexa Lamoreaux, Amanda Naperski and her husband Jeff, Timothy Brodhead Jr., and his wife Olivia, great-granddaughters, Callie and Reese Naperski, several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 9:30 am from the Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home-East, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 am in St. Andrew Parish, 316 Parish Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Twp. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank all the staff at Allied Services Meade Street Skilled Nursing, Allied Services Inpatient Hospice and Dr. Patrick Kerrigan for their care and compassion.
