Obituary of Yvonne V. Witkowski
Yvonne Witkowski, 88, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Wednesday, September 11th at her home surrounded by her loving children and family.
She was born in Ashley, a daughter of the late Peter and Amelia Balliet Kratz. Yvonne was a graduate of St. Leo’s High School in Ashley, class of 1955. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed for many years, in the food service department at King’s College.
Yvonne was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas P. Witkowski in 2012. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Peter, Nicholas and Louis Kratz; and by her sisters, Ann Boyle, Catherine (Kay) Kwarcinski; Helen (Hi) Thomas; Martina Supulski, Amelia (Meech) Conway; Ruth Gliddon; and Mary Bernadette Kratz.
Yvonne is survived by her children, Catherine Riccetti and her husband, Mark, Plains Twp.; Thomas P. Witkowski Jr., Wilkes-Barre; Stephen Witkowski and his wife, Donna, Wilkes-Barre; Yvonne Gordon, Ashley; Paula Weihbrecht and her husband, John, Bear Creek Twp.; Peter Witkowski and Jennifer Handley, Wilkes-Barre; Ann Brisk and her husband, Edwin; Wilkes-Barre; and Edward Witkowski, Ashley; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Yvonne’s children would like to thank Jennifer Handley and Virginia Grilz for helping care for their mother, along with her nurses, Sarah, Meghan and Samantha. The family would especially like to thank her daily caregiver, Nene, for her kindness, care and compassion.
A celebration of Yvonne’s life will begin with a visitation from 5-7 pm on Sunday at the Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 9:30 am in the Chapel of Christ the King at King’s College, 29 West North Street, Wilkes-Barre. Family and friends attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the Chapel at King’s College on Monday.
Entombment will be in Mary Mother of God Mausoleum at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Yvonne’s memory to King’s College or to Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
