Michael T. Garbush, 76, of Wilkes-Barre passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024 in Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Michael T. Garbush Sr. and Florence Burry Garbush. Mike was a graduate of Coughlin High School, class of 1966. Following high school, he was employed at Penn Refrigeration. He then served in the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam War, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Following his service to our country, he was employed in the construction industry, having worked for Zuba & Langan and J. Rose Construction. He was later self employed as a contractor, prior to his retirement. Mike was a member of St. Andrew Parish in Wilkes-Barre. He was also a member of the Hanover Township American Legion Post 609 and the Fraternal Order of the Police Lodge 36 in Hanover Township, where he was member of its dart league and horseshoe league. Mike was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Melissa Schneikart, Michelle and Michael Garbush. He was also preceded in death by brother, John Garbush and sister, Carol Woytas. Michael is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maureen Erickson Garbush and by his son-in-law, Paul Schneikart, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren Tyler, Logan and Michael Schneikart and Olivia Garbush. He is also survived by his Aunt Lorraine, brothers in law, sisters in law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 am from the Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 am in St. Andrew Parish, 316 Parish Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5-8 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Mike’s family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Gino Merli Veterans Center for the support and care given to him during his time there.
