Francis Joseph George Sr. Obituary

Francis J. George, Sr., 76, of Eynon, Pa passed on November 1, 2024. Son of the late Joseph and Helen Isaac George of Wilkes-Barre, Pa, he was preceded in death by his eight siblings Catherine Pipech, Mamie George, Joseph George Jr., Leila Yenchak, Margaret Volovic, Josephine Fluegel, Carol Marinetti and Anthony George.

He was a graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School and received his associate degree in Electronics/Computer Engineering. He earned his first class FCC license and was a Engineer during the early start-up years of WVIA TV/FM. Prior to his retirement he was employed at Nabisco/Kraft Foods; he also was employed by Motorola and General Electric.

He was the consummate engineer who loved fixing, building, creating and asking ‘why questions’. Francis delighted in giving his family and friends gifts and gadgets. His love of learning was evident in the wide range of areas about which he could speak and converse with others. He was a jokester with children, bringing out his ‘child from within’. Francis was proud of his Lebanese culture and did extensive research to provide a multigenerational family tree for his siblings’ children.

Francis is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Marie Angelella, his devoted son Francis Jr. (Scranton) and beloved grandson Adrian. He also survived by his mother-in-law Josephine Angelella, sisters-in-law Jean Noss (Bill), Josephine Bradley (Roger), brother-in-law John Angelella and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Francis contributed to the Gift of Life and requests that in lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St. Anthony’s Maronite Church, 311 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, PA.
