Please share a memory of Franklin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Monday, September 27, 2021, Franklin “Bud” Hargraves of Bear Creek fell asleep in death at the age of 93. Bud enjoyed a long, fulfilling life, and will be fondly remembered for his warm, inviting smile and cheerful personality. He was raised in Hanover Township, where he attended Hanover High School. During the summer months, Bud worked part-time at the local Coca-Cola factory, and at the end of his junior year of high school, Bud quit school to join Coca-Cola full-time. A few years later, on November 14, 1950, Bud enrolled in the United States Army where he loyally served until November 13, 1952. Upon returning home from service, Bud met his soon-to-be wife, Elizabeth Mishkin. He was a skilled and industrious man, and in 1958 he and Elizabeth moved into their new home in Bear Creek, which Bud built himself. It was in this home Bud and Elizabeth raised their daughter Debbie, to whom Bud was especially close. For 61 years, the Hargraves family made memories in the home that was built by Bud. For 43-years, Bud worked for Coca-Cola as a skilled line mechanic and in warehouse operations. He enjoyed many hobbies, including hunting and gardening. In particular, Bud loved bass fishing in the family’s Lingertot Pond with his younger brother, George. He is survived by his brother George Hargraves of Shavertown and several nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his loving wife Elizabeth “Betty” and daughter Debbie and by his two sisters, Elizabeth Pierson and Dorothy Harrington. He was the son of the late Franklin and Martha Jane (Lingertot) Hargraves. The family will celebrate Bud’s life on Friday, October 1, 2021 at St. Peter’s Evangelical-Lutheran Church, 1000 S. Main St., Hanover Township at 11:00, where the Reverend Joshua DeYoung, Pastor, will officiate. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Edwards & Russin Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. in Edwardsville. The Hargraves family would like to recognize and thank the Timber Ridge Nursing Home staff and Comfort Care Hospice for their tender and quality care.
